• State Fair dates for 2007 are August 2 nd thru August 12~ We have had a few couples sign up so far, but for the most part calendar wide open and in need of volunteers. The only time slot we will not be needing workers, because it is filled is Monday to Tuesday Aug 6-7. You may sign up today (I have the calendar) call me at 715-594-3066, or email me at cstockwell@redwing.net Thanks in advance for your support.
• We do ask that workers come down in pairs (mm of 2 people per motel room, as rates are pretty high) The pair must both be able to work the requested/designated shift, both being at least 16 year of age. A shift consists of an afternoon ( 2:00 p.m. to closing that evening, and then opening the next morning and working until 2:00 p.m. , when your relief couple arrives to begin their shift.) You are welcome to work more than one shift if you like, and thanks to a few couples who have been willing to do this, it has worked out great, and very much appreciated !
• Your motel room, admission to the fair and parking are provided, as well as some compensation for your meals the days that you work.
• We encourage all of you who have been awarded the blue ribbon syrup graded and judged here today, to take the opportunity to submit bids for supplying syrup at the State Fair 2007. The bid sheets will be mailed within a couple weeks from today.
• Remember, it is not necessary to supply syrup in order to work down at the State Fair. We encourage everyone to look at the dates, and hopefully able to sign up for at least one shift. It seems to be a worthwhile event for the Association to participate annually, and it takes several willing participants for its continued success.
• I received a notice in February 2007 our booth rates will be going up from the current 15% we pay State Fair Park on all items sold from our booth to 18%. 1 was also informed we WILL be permitted to sell our Maple Root Beer with no problems this year, however it is not confirmed if that will continue. We must only sell the product from our booth and nowhere else on the grounds (which we do not anyway).
• We have been purchasing our admission tickets in advance the past few years, and it saves a couple dollars per person, 1 have to guesstimate the number we will need, but with those free admit on the last day coupons (received when purchasing raffle tickets on the house) we come out Just fine. The price on the advance admission tickets has gone up as well, from $4.00 to $5.00 for each. I am sure the parking and the motel rates will follow suit and be slightly higher as well.
• We will need to be sending in the guarantee to State Fair Park now the end of May to first part of June, It will be over $5,000.00, and I will be ordering the advance admit tickets soon as well, they are approx $550.00
Respectfully,
Carol Stockwell (State Fair coordinator)
STATE FAIR REPORT NOVEMBER 4, 2006
Submitted by Carol Stockwell
The Wisconsin State Fair held August 3 - 13, 2006 in West Allis, was once again a success. We would like to thank all of the following persons for their participation, dedication, and volunteering their time. We could not have done it without you; it is a pleasure to work with all of you! Adamski (Gary & Vicky), Adamski (Jim & Sara), Anderson (Norman & Janice), Baroun (Jon & Theresa), Christensen (Conrad & Sharon), Gudgeon (Phil & Sarah), Hoff (Elton & Mabel), Hoff (Maynard & Connie), Hustad (Allen & Linda), Kriha (Jim & Mary), Paulsen (Harlo & Drenda), Roth (John & Pat), Simpson (Ted & Mary), Stepien (Jerry & Dottie), Stockwell (Larry, Vanessa, Ashley and Bryce), Stockwell (Lyle & Shirley), Skibbie (Frank), Swerman (Rod & Carla), VanDeurzen, (Don, Evie, and Vickie), Vargo-Stockwell (Katie), Voelker (Don & Nancy), Voelz (Queen Cynthia and Rosanne Marquardt), Zubell (Randy and Francis (& Mandi). You are very much appreciated! We look forward to working with all of you again next year. We would also like to extend a big thank you to everyone who submitted syrup bids, and supplied their syrup for the Fair. We scored 100% again regarding appearance, friendliness, and professionalism in our booth. It is a joint effort from all as a team, so congratulations to all who were a part of this year's team! As many of you may know we did encounter a problem with a new vendor in the Products Pavilion on opening day of the fair. A very well known company in the Milwaukee area (Sprechers) were refused the right to sell their very famous ‘Sprechers Root Beer' due to the exclusive rights Coca Cola has as far as beverage for the State Fair. Sprechers insisted the Maple Syrup Assoc should not be able to sell the Maple Root Beer either then ofcourse, and were very adamant. We were then told (by State Fair Officials) to pull all of the Maple Root Beer, and even had to remove all of the 50+ cases from the booth. It was a hassle, but the State Fair officials worked with us and listened to our take on the matter, and by the 3rd day we were able to move it back in and resume selling. Primarily because we were grandfathered in several years ago and we don't sell it to promote soda, but rather to promote Maple. Several fair goers were disappointed because we didn't have it, and some even called State Fair Park Officials and complained on our behalf. Very pleased with how State Fair Officials and the Coca Cola Company dealt with the matter and worked with us.
2007 State Fair dates will be August 2nd through August 12th, so be sure to mark your calendars and start thinking about which dates will work best for you.
